Et ces modifications peuvent se transmettre \u00e0 la descendance, lors de la reproduction.<\/p>\n<p>Par quel processus ? Chaque cellule d\u00e9tient un stock de g\u00e8nes, mais elle n\u2019en active qu\u2019une fraction. Cette fraction de g\u00e8nes attribue une forme et une fonction \u00e0 la cellule. Ainsi, une cellule de notre foie n\u2019activera pas la m\u00eame fraction de g\u00e8nes qu\u2019une cellule de notre biceps. Cette fraction est pour partie contr\u00f4l\u00e9e par des processus \u00e9pig\u00e9n\u00e9tiques. Un peu comme des interrupteurs qui allument ou \u00e9teignent les g\u00e8nes.<\/p>\n<p>Vincent Colot a \u00e9tudi\u00e9 une plante, Arabidopsis, qui fait partie de la famille du chou et des cardamines. Il a d\u00e9couvert les \u00ab g\u00e8nes sauteurs \u00bb et a mesur\u00e9 leur impact sur les caract\u00e8res de la plante : retard de floraison, production de nectar bloqu\u00e9e, meilleure r\u00e9sistance \u00e0 la s\u00e9cheresse\u2026<\/p>\n<p>Dans la nature, les variations \u00e9pig\u00e9n\u00e9tiques sont loin d\u2019\u00eatre anecdotiques. Chez Arabidopsis, elles peuvent \u00eatre transmises sur plusieurs g\u00e9n\u00e9rations. \u00ab Ces processus \u00e9pig\u00e9n\u00e9tiques modulent pr\u00e9f\u00e9rentiellement l\u2019activit\u00e9 de g\u00e8nes qui permettent \u00e0 la plante de r\u00e9pondre \u00e0 des stress environnementaux : s\u00e9cheresse, attaques de pathog\u00e8nes li\u00e9es \u00e0 une forte pluviom\u00e9trie, etc. \u00bb, souligne Vincent Colot.<\/p>\n<p>Chez les plantes, l\u2019\u00e9pig\u00e9n\u00e9tique permet une adaptation rapide, intense mais r\u00e9versible \u00e0 un environnement changeant. Et cela se transmet aux g\u00e9n\u00e9rations suivantes, au contraire du r\u00e8gne animal.
