Les arbres en \u00e9mettent \u00e9galement un peu et plusieurs \u00e9tudes ayant analys\u00e9 ces flux dans des \u00e9cosyst\u00e8mes forestiers g\u00e9n\u00e9ralement froids ou humides ont montr\u00e9 un bilan positif, soit une \u00e9mission nette de m\u00e9thane dans l\u2019atmosph\u00e8re.<\/p>\n<p>Nous savions d\u00e9j\u00e0 que des bact\u00e9ries pr\u00e9sentes sur l\u2019\u00e9corce des arbres sont capables d\u2019intercepter ce gaz comme source d\u2019\u00e9nergie (m\u00e9thanotrophie). De nouveaux r\u00e9sultats issus d\u2019une \u00e9tude men\u00e9e dans diff\u00e9rents types de for\u00eats (tropicales, temp\u00e9r\u00e9es et bor\u00e9ales) viennent d\u2019\u00eatre publi\u00e9s, et montrent que les arbres absorbent du m\u00e9thane \u00e0 grande \u00e9chelle. Voici quelques points cl\u00e9s de cette \u00e9tude:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Certains \u00e9cosyst\u00e8mes forestiers non immerg\u00e9s ont des bilans n\u00e9gatifs au niveau des flux de m\u00e9thane, soit une captation nette du gaz (puits de m\u00e9thane).<\/li>\n<li>En \u00e9talant au sol la surface d\u2019\u00e9corce des troncs de tous les arbres de la Terre, on pourrait couvrir l\u2019\u00e9quivalent de la surface terrestre, ce qui en fait un puits de m\u00e9thane majeur.<\/li>\n<li>La capacit\u00e9 d\u2019absorption de m\u00e9thane augmente avec la surface des troncs, donc l\u2019\u00e2ge des arbres.<\/li>\n<li>Les biomes tropicaux et subtropicaux contribuent le plus \u00e0 cette captation du m\u00e9thane car la chaleur favorise l\u2019activit\u00e9 des bact\u00e9ries m\u00e9thanotrophes.<\/li>\n<\/ul>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Le m\u00e9thane est un des gaz \u00e0 effet de serre le plus rejet\u00e9 dans l\u2019atmosph\u00e8re par l\u2019activit\u00e9 humaine.
