Dans le contexte m\u00e9diterran\u00e9en, des chercheurs ont \u00e9tudi\u00e9 la r\u00e9ponse \u00e0 la s\u00e9cheresse de quatre essences : le pin parasol (<em>Pinus pinea<\/em>), le pin maritime (<em>Pinus pinaster<\/em>), le gen\u00e9vrier thurif\u00e8re (<em>Juniperus thurifera<\/em>) et le ch\u00eane vert (<em>Quercus ilex<\/em>). Les quatre essences ont \u00e9t\u00e9 \u00e9tudi\u00e9es en peuplements purs et m\u00e9lang\u00e9s. La largeur de cerne de 281 arbres a \u00e9t\u00e9 utilis\u00e9e pour quantifier la r\u00e9ponse aux \u00e9pisodes de s\u00e9cheresse. Des indices de r\u00e9silience ont \u00e9t\u00e9 utilis\u00e9s pour compl\u00e9ter l\u2019analyse. La comp\u00e9tition inter et intrasp\u00e9cifique a \u00e9galement \u00e9t\u00e9 \u00e9valu\u00e9e au cours des 25 derni\u00e8res ann\u00e9es.<\/p>\n<p>Selon les r\u00e9sultats obtenus, le m\u00e9lange favorise la r\u00e9sistance \u00e0 la s\u00e9cheresse du pin parasol ainsi que la r\u00e9silience du gen\u00e9vrier thurif\u00e8re. En revanche, le pin maritime voit sa r\u00e9sistance \u00e0 la s\u00e9cheresse diminuer consid\u00e9rablement lorsqu\u2019il est en m\u00e9lange. Seuls le gen\u00e9vrier et le ch\u00eane vert r\u00e9cup\u00e8rent des taux de croissance normaux apr\u00e8s des \u00e9pisodes de s\u00e9cheresse.<\/p>\n<p>Les effets de la comp\u00e9tition sur la croissance diff\u00e8rent selon les conditions d\u2019approvisionnement en eau et selon l\u2019esp\u00e8ce \u00e0 l\u2019origine de la comp\u00e9tition. Dans cette \u00e9tude, les peuplements de ch\u00eane vert et de gen\u00e9vrier sont les plus r\u00e9silients face aux s\u00e9cheresses prolong\u00e9es gr\u00e2ce \u00e0 leur compl\u00e9mentarit\u00e9 dans l\u2019usage des ressources. Ceci r\u00e9duit la comp\u00e9tition entre les deux esp\u00e8ces.
