Dans les for\u00eats temp\u00e9r\u00e9es, les arbres sont g\u00e9n\u00e9ralement associ\u00e9s \u00e0 des mycorhizes \u00e0 arbuscules (AM) ou \u00e0 des ectomycorhizes (ECM), qui diff\u00e8rent morphologiquement mais aussi dans leurs modes de fonctionnement.<\/p>\n<p>La plupart des estimations de l\u2019apport de carbone souterrain prennent en compte la liti\u00e8re, parfois la production racinaire mais sous-estiment les apports provenant des mycorhizes et des exsudats racinaires, tr\u00e8s difficiles \u00e0 quantifier. De plus, il existe probablement des variations consid\u00e9rables dans l\u2019allocation du carbone souterrain selon la morphologie et l\u2019architecture des racines et la composition des communaut\u00e9s mycorhiziennes associ\u00e9es en symbioses \u00e0 ces derni\u00e8res.<\/p>\n<p>Afin de mieux comprendre ces ph\u00e9nom\u00e8nes, des chercheurs ont compar\u00e9 pendant deux saisons de croissance compl\u00e8tes l\u2019accumulation de carbone du sol d\u00e9riv\u00e9e des racines et de leur croissance dans des peuplements compos\u00e9s d\u2019un gradient d\u2019arbres \u00e0 mycorhizes AM ou ECM dans l\u2019Est des \u00c9tats-Unis. Les mesures prenaient en compte tous les apports des racines et champignons ainsi que leurs exsudats. Les chercheurs ont ainsi constat\u00e9 que les parcelles domin\u00e9es par les mycorhizes AM montrent un plus grand apport de carbone d\u00e9riv\u00e9 des racines alors que la croissance des racines et la production mycorhizienne sont sup\u00e9rieures dans les parcelles domin\u00e9es par les mycorhizes ECM.<\/p>\n<p>Les r\u00e9sultats mettent aussi en \u00e9vidence l\u2019ampleur des apports de carbone au d\u00e9part des racines qui d\u00e9passent les apports de carbone provenant de la liti\u00e8re ! Les apports fongiques au carbone du sol d\u00e9passeraient \u00e0 eux seuls ceux de la liti\u00e8re et des racines cumul\u00e9es.<\/p>\n<p>Ces r\u00e9sultats sugg\u00e8rent que de meilleures estimations des contributions des racines et des champignons aux stocks stables de la mati\u00e8re organique du sol sont n\u00e9cessaires pour mieux comprendre comment les changements de v\u00e9g\u00e9tation peuvent affecter le cycle du carbone dans l&rsquo;\u00e9cosyst\u00e8me, aujourd&rsquo;hui et demain.<\/p>\n<p>\u00ad<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Pr\u00e8s de la moiti\u00e9 de la production primaire des arbres entre dans le sol par les racines mais nous comprenons encore mal comment ces entr\u00e9es affectent la formation et la stabilisation de la mati\u00e8re organique du sol.
