L\u2019association suisse proQuercus a publi\u00e9 \u00e0 cet effet une cl\u00e9 de d\u00e9termination \u00e0 l\u2019usage des praticiens forestiers, permettant de d\u00e9terminer les diff\u00e9rents types de ch\u00eanes de mani\u00e8re visuelle. Cette cl\u00e9 propose une approche originale du complexe sessile\/pubescent et les caract\u00e8res morphologiques pr\u00e9sent\u00e9s sont le reflet des r\u00e9alit\u00e9s g\u00e9n\u00e9tiques. <\/p>\n<p>L\u2019herbier des ch\u00eanes du canton de Vaud, qui rassemble plus de 16 000 feuilles de ces arbres, a servi de base \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e9tablissement de cette cl\u00e9 et a permis de pr\u00e9ciser les liens des ch\u00eanes avec leurs milieux pr\u00e9f\u00e9rentiels. D\u2019autres herbiers cantonaux existent en Suisse, permettant encore d\u2019am\u00e9liorer les connaissances sur ces essences. Celui du canton du Valais refl\u00e8te d\u2019ailleurs l\u2019adaptation des populations de ch\u00eanes au stress climatique. Dans ce canton au climat estival chaud et sec (Valais central), les ch\u00eanes se sont adapt\u00e9s en arborant un feuillage pubescent. <\/p>\n<p>En \u00e9tudiant cet herbier, les potentialit\u00e9s d\u2019adaptation des ch\u00eanes aux conditions \u00e9daphiques et climatiques locales ou r\u00e9gionales ont clairement \u00e9t\u00e9 mises en \u00e9vidence, via une modulation des proportions des esp\u00e8ces de ch\u00eane du complexe sessile\/pubescent. Le gradient hydrique des sols est ainsi l\u2019\u00e9l\u00e9ment d\u00e9terminant de la r\u00e9partition des esp\u00e8ces de ch\u00eanes. Le ch\u00eane p\u00e9doncul\u00e9 est cantonn\u00e9 aux milieux lui garantissant un apport en eau continu. Ce crit\u00e8re est donc \u00e0 prendre en compte pour sa conservation \u00e0 long terme avec une qualit\u00e9 satisfaisante.
