Un groupe de chercheurs europ\u00e9ens a utilis\u00e9 des capteurs fix\u00e9s aux arbres pour enregistrer de minuscules changements dans la circonf\u00e9rence des arbres. Cette initiative appel\u00e9e <i>DenDrought2018<\/i> est une \u00e9manation de l&rsquo;action COST \u00ab STReESS \u00bb (<i>Studying Tree Responses to extreme events<\/i>).<\/p>\n<p>Les capteurs fix\u00e9s sur les arbres mesurent la croissance et le r\u00e9tr\u00e9cissement des arbres toutes les heures, au microm\u00e8tre pr\u00e8s. Les enregistrements de 377 arbres \u00e0 travers l&rsquo;Europe ont \u00e9t\u00e9 int\u00e9gr\u00e9s et analys\u00e9s pour d\u00e9terminer comment la canicule de 2018 a \u00e9t\u00e9 v\u00e9cue par 21 esp\u00e8ces d&rsquo;arbres europ\u00e9ens. Les r\u00e9sultats montrent que les esp\u00e8ces d&rsquo;arbres ont r\u00e9agi tr\u00e8s diff\u00e9remment \u00e0 la canicule. Par exemple, les conif\u00e8res se sont montr\u00e9s plus sensibles \u00e0 la canicule que les feuillus. Alors qu&rsquo;un seul \u00e9v\u00e9nement de stress pourrait ne pas \u00eatre probl\u00e9matique, des vagues de chaleur r\u00e9p\u00e9t\u00e9es causeront probablement des probl\u00e8mes pour certaines essences dans certaines conditions de site.<\/p>\n<p>Les chercheurs ont montr\u00e9 que la surveillance des arbres \u00e0 l&rsquo;aide de capteurs peut \u00eatre utilis\u00e9e comme un syst\u00e8me d&rsquo;alerte pr\u00e9coce pour d\u00e9tecter le stress d\u00fb \u00e0 la s\u00e9cheresse et mesurer la r\u00e9silience des arbres avant que des r\u00e9actions plus graves, comme la perte des feuilles, ne se produisent.
