Un \u00ab carottage \u00bb a \u00e9t\u00e9 r\u00e9alis\u00e9 pour analyser comment ces arbres r\u00e9agissent face aux \u00e9v\u00e8nements climatiques majeurs en termes d\u2019accroissement radial (en largeur).<br \/>\nDepuis le XXe si\u00e8cle, la temp\u00e9rature moyenne annuelle a augment\u00e9 d\u2019environ 2\u00b0C en Belgique. Les h\u00eatres voient globalement leur accroissement moyen diminuer mais sa variabilit\u00e9 augmenter. Le plus surprenant est que, quelque soit le climat (climat maritime \u00e0 climat plus continental) et l\u2019altitude (de 7 \u00e0 590 m), les h\u00eatres r\u00e9agissent de mani\u00e8re synchrone. \u00ab C\u2019est comme s\u2019ils se trouvaient tous dans la m\u00eame for\u00eat, quel que soit leur \u00e2ge et ind\u00e9pendamment des facteurs environnementaux locaux\u00a0\u00bb.<br \/>\nLe h\u00eatre est consid\u00e9r\u00e9 comme une essence tr\u00e8s sensible aux changements climatiques mais il r\u00e9siste plut\u00f4t bien jusqu\u2019ici. On constate ainsi une mortalit\u00e9 plut\u00f4t limit\u00e9e ces derni\u00e8res ann\u00e9es. Le GIEC (Groupe d\u2019experts intergouvernemental sur l\u2019\u00e9volution du climat) pr\u00e9voit que la temp\u00e9rature annuelle moyenne continue d\u2019augmenter. Il convient donc d\u2019\u00e9viter de planter cette esp\u00e8ce dans des stations \u00e0 risque. On encouragera \u00e9galement l\u2019adaptation de cette esp\u00e8ce gr\u00e2ce au processus de s\u00e9lection naturelle en favorisant la r\u00e9g\u00e9n\u00e9ration naturelle.<br \/>\nForestopic.
