Did you know that the oak jay can carry up to six acorns in its crop and hide up to 5,000 acorns in autumn? This incredible corvid contributes to the propagation and regeneration of many oak species by hiding acorns in transition zones (gaps, edges, etc.) and then forgetting about them! Up to 60% of hidden acorns are forgotten by the oak jay, enabling thousands of oak seedlings to emerge in the spring. This natural dispersal process is an integral part of an innovative project launched by the ProQuercus association with the support of the Seedling Foundation (Switzerland).
