{"id":41413,"date":"2024-09-26T15:25:20","date_gmt":"2024-09-26T13:25:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/foretnature.be\/?post_type=forestnews&#038;p=41413"},"modified":"2024-09-26T15:25:20","modified_gmt":"2024-09-26T13:25:20","slug":"beech-and-oak-both-have-their-own-companions","status":"publish","type":"forestnews","link":"https:\/\/foretnature.be\/en\/forestnews\/beech-and-oak-both-have-their-own-companions\/","title":{"rendered":"Beech and oak both have their own companions"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>How do hornbeam, white elm, field maple and wild service tree react to climate change?<\/p>\n<p>Researchers have attempted to answer this question by analyzing their behavior after heatwaves and droughts, and comparing it with the better-known behavior of oak and beech.<\/p>\n<p>The results show :<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Reduced growth and higher variability than oak or beech (except for white elm).<\/li>\n<li>Better adaptation to drought than beech, and sometimes even oak, especially in the case of field maple and blackbeam.<\/li>\n<li>The study concludes that these species are well suited to mixed plantings.
