Ce stockage est un enjeu majeur pour la lutte contre le r\u00e9chauffement climatique. La capitalisation sur pied correspond \u00e0 un ralentissement des r\u00e9coltes, qui devrait g\u00e9n\u00e9rer un puits de carbone additionnel par l\u2019augmentation des stocks moyens de biomasse sur pied. La substitution d\u2019essences \u00e0 croissance lente, comme le ch\u00eane sessile ou le h\u00eatre, par des essences r\u00e9sineuses \u00e0 croissance rapide, comme le pin laricio ou le douglas, pourrait entra\u00eener une absorption plus rapide du CO2. L\u2019analyse a \u00e9t\u00e9 r\u00e9alis\u00e9e sur base d\u2019une cha\u00eene de mod\u00e8les prenant en compte l\u2019ensemble des compartiments dans lesquels le carbone est impliqu\u00e9, \u00e0 savoir la biomasse foresti\u00e8re, le sol mais aussi les produits forestiers issus de l\u2019exploitation (avec la notion de \u00ab dur\u00e9es de vie apparentes \u00bb). L\u2019article montre qu\u2019une capitalisation sur pied engendrerait un puits de carbone additionnel d\u00e9pendant de l\u2019\u00e9tat initial des peuplements, de la fertilit\u00e9 et de la nouvelle sylviculture pratiqu\u00e9e. Il pourrait s\u2019\u00e9lever jusqu\u2019\u00e0 142 tC\/ha apr\u00e8s obtention du r\u00e9gime permanent dans le cas le plus favorable.
