Les images obtenues sont d\u00e9finies par plusieurs types de r\u00e9solutions : spatiale, spectrale et temporelle. La r\u00e9solution spatiale correspond \u00e0 la dimension des pixels qui constituent les \u00e9l\u00e9ments de base d\u2019une image. La r\u00e9solution spectrale correspond au nombre et \u00e0 la finesse des bandes spectrales auxquelles le capteur est sensible, une bande spectrale \u00e9tant le rayonnement \u00e9mis ou r\u00e9fl\u00e9chi par la surface de la Terre pour certaines gammes de longueur d\u2019onde et enregistr\u00e9 par le capteur. La r\u00e9solution temporelle correspond quant \u00e0 elle \u00e0 la fr\u00e9quence d\u2019acquisition d\u2019une image \u00e0 un endroit donn\u00e9. L\u2019utilisation de ces donn\u00e9es de t\u00e9l\u00e9d\u00e9tection se d\u00e9cline selon trois grandes approches d\u00e9taill\u00e9es dans l\u2019article : la photo-interpr\u00e9tation, le photogramm\u00e9trie et la classification num\u00e9rique d\u2019images. Les applications de la t\u00e9l\u00e9d\u00e9tection en foresterie sont tr\u00e8s nombreuses et en constant progr\u00e8s. Cette technique permet avant tout de disposer d\u2019une image r\u00e9guli\u00e8rement actualis\u00e9e et de plus en plus pr\u00e9cise de l\u2019\u00e9tendue de nos massifs forestiers.
